Privacy Policy

TypeCut (“TypeCut”, “we”, “us”) is a mobile application for adding captions to videos. This policy covers the TypeCut app and this website.

TypeCut reads the video you choose from where it already sits on your device, renders captions on your device, and writes the exported file back to your device. Source footage and exported videos are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

On some Android versions the system file picker returns a video without a file path we can open directly. In that case TypeCut copies the file into its own storage on your device so it can be decoded. That copy stays on your device, and it is deleted when you delete the project.

If you choose Auto captions, TypeCut extracts the audio track of that clip and sends it to our server, which passes it to OpenAI to be transcribed. We ask for your agreement before the first time this happens.

• Audio only. The video itself is never sent — only a compressed, speech-quality copy of its sound.
• Not retained. The audio is streamed through to the transcription service and is not written to our storage. Once the transcript comes back it is gone.
• Processed by OpenAI. The transcription is performed by OpenAI’s Whisper API under their API terms, which state that API data is not used to train their models.
• Avoidable entirely. “From my script” times captions from words you type, runs fully on your device, and sends nothing.

We keep a count of how many transcription minutes your account has used in the current month, so we can apply your plan’s allowance. That counter is a number — it holds no audio and no text.

You can import, style, preview and edit captions without an account. Signing in is required only for automatic captions and export, because both are metered by your plan.

Sign-in uses Google or Apple. We never see, receive or store a password. From the provider we receive your email address, and your display name and profile photo where you allow it.

An account stores:

• Your email address and display name
• Your subscription status
• Caption presets you choose to save
• Your monthly transcription usage count
• The date you accepted these terms

It stores no video, no audio, no transcripts, and no thumbnails.

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand whether the app works. These record events such as a project being created, a style applied, or an export starting, failing or completing, along with crash reports containing device model, operating system version and a stack trace.

These records contain no video, no audio, no caption text and no file names.

Subscriptions are purchased and billed through Google Play or the App Store. Card details are handled entirely by those stores; we never receive or store them. We receive only confirmation that a subscription is active, which is what unlocks Pro features.

We do not sell personal data. We share only with:

• Google Firebase — authentication, database, analytics and crash reporting.
• OpenAI — transcription of the audio you explicitly submit for automatic captions.
• Google Play / Apple — subscription billing.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold, and to withdraw consent.

• Deleting a project on your device deletes its captions and settings immediately.
• Signing out ends the session on that device.
• Delete your account from inside the app — Settings, then Account, then Delete my account. It is immediate and permanent. See how to delete your account.
• If you cannot reach the app, email pavankumarhox56@gmail.com and we will action it within 30 days.

Projects, captions and exports live on your device for as long as you keep them. Account data is kept while your account exists. Analytics and crash data are retained on Firebase’s default schedule, up to 14 months.

TypeCut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change means media would be handled differently from what is described here, we will tell you inside the app before it takes effect — not after.
